Our farm

A working farm, run by a small team.

We are a registered Malawian farm business in Chileka, farming since 2021. Our apiary, poultry and crop fields sit on the same land, and we run a dedicated production house for the honey.

"This is more than honey. It's a labour of love crafted with sustainable, time-honoured methods."From the Otaku's Premium Honey label

  • Our own honey only. We do not buy honey from other farmers. Every jar traces back to our hives.
  • No chemicals in the hives. We use no antibiotics or chemical treatments on our bees.
  • Clean, separate spaces. Honey is processed in its own production house, away from the poultry and crop areas, under written hygiene procedures.

Honey: hive to jar

Eight steps, all in our hands.

Each stage follows a written procedure and is recorded, so every batch number on a jar leads back to the hives and harvest day it came from.

  1. Apiary care

Hives sited and inspected on our land. No antibiotics or chemical treatments.

  2. Harvest

Only capped, ripe frames are taken, leaving the colony enough to thrive.

  3. Transport

Frames travel in clean, covered food-grade containers straight to the production house.

  4. Receiving

Each harvest is checked and its moisture measured with a refractometer before processing.

  5. Extraction

Uncapping, extraction, straining, filtering and settling, with no heat treatment.

  6. Filling

Jars filled to 452 to 455 g, weighed one by one, capped and sealed.

  7. Labelling

Batch number, manufacture date and best-before date on every jar.

  8. Delivery

Stored cool and dry, then delivered to shops and customers.

Honey quality

We work to the Malawi standard, and tighter where it counts.

Our honey is tested against MS 366, the Malawi honey specification. On the measures that show freshness and careful handling, we set stricter limits for ourselves.
